The Children of Zion Village is a Christian home for orphans in the southern African nation of Namibia. It is located along the Zambezi River in the northeast corner of Namibia. Our children come from several different tribal and language groups.
The "village" opened in January, 2003 and is now home to 57 children. Most of the children have been placed in our care because they have lost their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to AIDS.
Here the boys and girls receive love, nutrition, shelter, healthcare, academic, vocational and Bible education, and become part of one large Christian family. Our missionaries, volunteers, and Namibian staff work together to raise the children in our "village".

Donation of “puffs”!

Well, we always know that God will provide for our needs.  Sometimes we still worry about how and when.  That is a lack of faith and our God is always faithful and with perfect timing.

One day, an unexpected truck pulled up with a donation for Zion.  When they started unloading, we stood with mouths open and the load of “puffs” they were donating to Zion Village.  We had enough to give all the staff 2 bags and give them to the children several times a week.

Psalm 100:4  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise.  Be thankful to Him, and bless His name!!

More Fashion! And Talent!!

Whenever we have volunteers or visitors (or even when we do not), the children love to do a fashion show.  We save some clothes that are "fashion like" and then they dress up.  They can change dozens of times and look so cute and different each time!  Especially the girls!!  Enjoy a glimpse of the show.

See you next time!  Enjoy life!!!  Don’t forget to smile.  Jesus loves YOU!!!

Baptisms in the River

Singing the song “Gonna lay down my burdens.  Down by the riverside.  Down by the riverside.  Down by the riverside.  Gonna lay down my burdens.  Down by the riverside…” has a real meaning.  78 people were baptized in the river and into the SDA church.  Three of these 78 were from our staff.  The choir was singing, the water was cold and the wind was blowing.  It was a beautiful experience to see these people come to the river to be baptized.

We started by gathering at the church.  The few vehicles were packed with people (the typical African way).  Then after parking we walked on through the bush to the water.

The minister asked a series of questions and the people raised their hands to respond.  One older lady could not stand so she sat in the front of the others.

The choir and all sang while everyone was walking into the water.  Each baptism was beautiful and we know that each person was blessed.

Join us in praying for all of those that came to Jesus!

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.  Matthew 28:19-20

The children at Zion love sports.  They have been playing soccer, basketball and a little net ball for some time.  Now, a Rugby coach has come to the school to teach them this sport.  He comes with all the equipment for them to use and has ordered us equipment that can stay at the school and be used to practice once they learn the game.  Then the tournaments will be scheduled.  What fun!!!

Boat Ride on the Zambezi

Sometimes we HAVE to take the boat because of flooding and sometimes we just need to drive the boat to keep it running.  So, that was our excuse to take the children out for a Sunday afternoon boat ride.

First the driver needs to make sure the boat will start.  Then the riders need to put on a life jacket.  Then they all load the boat.

And off we go!  We are always searching for something interesting… crocodiles, monkeys, birds mostly hippos.  Those hippos were just peaking at us wondering what these weird people were doing.

The driver always has willing little ones to assist!

The ones that were in the second group were waiting on the bank.  Some were cheering in their friends that were on the first boat.

After all are back from their ride, we put the boat to “bed” and thank God for the beauty of the earth and for His love and mercies daily, for safety and for His many blessings and for this place, Children of Zion Village!
