WELCOME

The Children of Zion Village is a Christian home for orphans in the southern African nation of Namibia. It is located along the Zambezi River in the northeast corner of Namibia. Our children come from several different tribal and language groups.

The "village" opened in January, 2003 and is now home to 57 children. Most of the children have been placed in our care because they have lost their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to AIDS.

Here the boys and girls receive love, nutrition, shelter, healthcare, academic, vocational and Bible education, and become part of one large Christian family. Our missionaries, volunteers, and Namibian staff work together to raise the children in our "village".

VILLAGE NEWS

Vocational Schooling

The Vocational College in Katima Mulilo has opened up its doors to our older children. Ten of our teens have begun to take classes in brick laying, joinery and clothing technology in addition to the academic schooling they continue at our COZV mission school. We seek to have the children in our care well prepared to enter independent living when they leave COZV. Soon to open is our transitional housing for some of these same teens.

Please pray for our blossoming young adults as they grow toward independence.

COZV Athletes

A group of our students participated in a regional track competition, with a number of them gaining wins. Djolo and Lisedi ran with times fast enough to qualify them for the national competition recently held in Swakopmund. Both did very well, and Djolo received the bronze medal. In this photo he is standing next to Frank Fredericks, a Namibian world track champion who currently sits on the International Olympic Committee.

Goty and Petro have been playing soccer on a regional adult team and have been offered spots on a team traveling to Windhoek this week to play in the televised Coca-Cola Cup.

Wonderful Visitors

Much excitement was evident this week at COZV as Travis and Lorna Curry, our newly appointed COZV directors, arrived on-site for a visit. The Curry's will return to the states in order to complete their training and support raising, and hope to have everything in place to serve COZV full-time sometime in the fall. The children, the staff, and the local community all greeted the Curry's warmly and are looking forward to having them move in.
