Camping - and Exams!

Recently many of our Children of Zion Village children went on a camping excursion with volunteers and several of our Namibian staff. They traveled to the western Caprivi region where they slept in tents, cooked over a campfire, went on safari, and visited in several villages. About half of the children came from villages in this region before they became orphaned, and taking them on these visits keeps them connected to their heritage.

Schooling continues to be a strong focus for the COZV children. This week seven of them will be taking the "Grade 7" exam. Satisfactory marks on this test will boost their esteem and open doors for more possibilities in their education.

Congratulations

Congratulations are due to the Mink's daughter Jennifer and her husband Scott upon the birth of their second son. Rebecca was able to be in the states to welcome little Jonas and help care for his big brother. She has now returned to Namibia and COZV, but Gary is on his way to the states to meet his grandson and also to share ministry updates with supporting churches. Please remember to lift the Mink family up in prayer as you pray for our COZV children and all of the ministry needs.

Visit to the USA

Two of our Children of Zion Village boys have had the opportunity to spend several months in the USA. Disco is very skilled in working with our COZV horses, and was invited to work alongside a blacksmith in Arkansas to learn horseshoeing. He earned a certificate because of his accomplishments. Nico has always had a fascination with cowboys and was invited to learn and work on a Christian dude ranch in Texas. While there he gained skill and muscle! Both of the boys will take their knowledge back to Namibia where they will use it at COZV and eventually in a trade as they transition to adulthood. What a learning, growing experience they both have had!

Updating at last!

After months of glitches, we think we will now be able to properly update our website. So, welcome back to Children of Zion news!

Several volunteer teams and individuals have blessed our ministry this past spring and summer and have taught, encouraged, and loved our children while providing extra hands for our missionaries and the staff. And in turn, the volunteers have returned home with larger hearts and enriched lives. Thank you to all who have given of themselves to bless the "least of these".

CHRISTMAS AT COZV

Our children had a number of days of activity as they celebrated Jesus' birthday. One day was set aside to have a party for our African staff members who work hard to care for our children and the facilities. Another day was spent with a group of our children traveling to town to visit and sing Christmas Carols at the local hospital. Christmas day was the day for the COZV family to enjoy together. The children were thrilled with receiving classroom computers, science dvds, and bicycles to share, and a shoebox of gifts for each child. The following day was spent with our children giving a party for the orphans from the nearby Mafuta Village. Each of these children received a small gift and enjoyed a feast with our COZV children. The celebrations were all filled with joy as the focus was on the greatest gift of all, the birth of Jesus, the son of God.
